Intel's 9-series chipset will lack SATA Express

Might cause a big delay

According to the latest information coming from VR-Zone, it appears that Intel's upcoming 9-series chipset, especially the new Z97 Express chipset Haswell-E platform, will not feature the new SATA Express standard. This is quite a big disappointment, considering that the lack of support on Intel's platform will most likely delay the release of the SATA Express-based devices as well.

In case you somehow managed to miss it, SATA Express is a part of the new Serial ATA 3.2 standard and will feature connectors that are backwards compatible as well as PCIe-based SATA Express devices. It also provides a choice of AHCI or NVM Express host interfaces as well as provide much higher bandwidth.

Hopefully, we will see a third-party controller that motherboard makers can implement on their motherboards but considering how much time it took for us to get a decent third-party chip or native USB 3.0, things are definitely not looking good.
