AMD has officially announced its newest member of the Radeon R9 series, the Curacao GPU based R9 270. Based on AMD's Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture, the AMD R9 270 should be, at least according to AMD, the prefect 1080p gaming graphics card.
In case you missed it earlier, the R9 270 is based on the 28nm Curacao GPU which is quite similar to the Pitcairn GPU, earlier seen with the Radeon HD 7870. It packs 1280 stream processors, 80 TMUs, 32 ROPs and comes equipped with 4GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 256-bit memory interface. According to AMD, the R9 270 should be clocked at up to 925MHz for the GPU while memory should end up at up to 1.4GHz (5.6GHz effective), which should give it a maximum memory bandwidth of 179.2GB/s and 2.67 TFLOPS of single precision compute power.
According to AMD, the Radeon R9 270 graphics card is ideal for gamers looking to play the latest games at 1080p with high settings. A single power connector and 150W TDP also make it ideal for users with longer upgrade cycles that are looking to squeeze more life out of their current gaming rig.
The AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics cards will be available as of November 13th, 2013 with a suggested retail price of of US $179 and €134 (ex. VAT).
