ASRock unveils its own socket FM2+ AMD A88X motherboards

Ready for A-Series Kaveri APUs

Following the rest of the manufacturers and getting ready for AMD's A-Series Kaveri APUs to show up, ASRock has unveiled its first socket FM2+ motherboards based on AMD's AM88X chipset. Covering both the ATX and micro-ATX segment, the FM2A88X-Extreme6+ and the FM2A88M-Extreme4+ socket FM2+ motherboards will certainly find its place in the market.

Based on a full, feature-rich, ATX form-factor, the FM2A88X-Extreme6+ features 10-phase VRM, has four DDR3 DIMM slots, two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots ( x8/x8 ), single PCI-Express 2.0 x4 via A88X FCH, two PCI-Express 2.0 x1 and single PCI slot. It also features a total of seven SATA 6Gbps ports and one eSATA 6Gbps one, DVI, DisplayPort 1.2 and, most likely, HDMI 2.0 port, 7.1-channel audio with optical SPDIF, gigabit Ethernet and six USB 3.0 ports.

The micro-ATX FM2A88M-Extreme4+ is definitely not far behind as it but comes with a rather weaker 6-phase VRM design, four DDR3 DIMM slots and a single PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot while the second full-size PCI-Express slot is a gen 2.0 x4 one. It also features single PCI-Express 2.0 x1 and single PCI slot, DVI, D-Sub and HDMI outputs, 7.1-channel HD audio, gigabit Ethernet and four USB 3.0 ports.

Both motherboards are backward-compatible with A-Series Richland and Trinity APUs and use the same full-black color scheme. AMD's upcoming Kaveri APUs are certainly interesting as they pack enough punch to power a decent system without breaking the bank.
