As you already know, Intel plans to introduce the new Ivy Bridge-E HEDT platform on 11th of September, or just a day after the Intel Developers Conference 2013 kicks off in San Francisco but, according to a recent report from Expreview.com, it will also show the new SSD overclocking feature that will be available on the new Ivy Bridge-E HEDT platform.
The SSD overclocking is a novelty that might not bring that much performance improvements but will certainly bridge the gap between the SATA 6Gbps interface and the new SATA Express interface scheduled to appear with the Haswell refresh next year, at least for those running on Ivy Bridge-E HEDT platform.
The SSD overclocking will most likely include controller clock-rate and NAND flash memory data rates manipulation but since most SSDs are simply limited by the actual SATA 6Gbit interface, we doubt that these will bring any significant improvements. Of course, there is still the data integrity that needs to be maintained in an overclocked scenario as losing everything on the SSD can't really compare to a system restart when other components are overclocked.
Of course, we will hold our final judgment until Intel actually demonstrate and announce this new feature at IDF 2013, but do not get your hopes up, as it could end up to be a minor gimmick rather than a significant enthusiast feature.
