During its earnings call last night, Nvidia's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang talked quite a lot about Nvidia's hand-held Shield console, calling it a sell-out success.
According to Jen-Hsun Huang, sales have been going great and everything that they managed to ship has so far sold out. He also noted that Nvidia is just starting to ramp production and have shipped out only several thousand units to its partners. This situation makes it quite hard to judge how well is the Shield actually doing but Nvidia's CEO is expecting it to do quite well.
It was not all well with Shield launch as Nvidia was forced to delay it a couple of times mostly due to build quality issues with one of the suppliers and even an "overwhelming demand", according to Nvidia. Nvidia finally managed to officially launch it on July 31st with a US $300 price.
In any case, Nvidia will at least learn a lot from Shield channel placement and give it a good starting point for its rumored push into tablet market.
