Intel's 14nm Broadwell pushed to 2H 2014

Haswell refresh coming in Q2 2014

According to an updated roadmap that recently showed up at VR-Zone, it appears that Intel has delayed the launch of the 14nm Broadwell mobile chips to second half of next year while the refresh of desktop Haswell CPUs has been dated to Q2 2014.

Recent rumors also noted that Intel actually scrapped the desktop launch of 14nm Broadwell CPUs but the desktop platform will get 22nm Haswell refresh in the second quarter of the next year. The Haswell refresh will also bring the new Z97 and H97 chipset with SATA Express and a couple of new updates. It is, of course, expected that the Haswell refresh will be backward compatible with the currently available Z87 and H87 chipset considering that they are based on the same LGA 1150 socket.

Although it will not launch the expected desktop "TICK" that Broadwell should have brought, Intel is expected to launch the new 14nm Skylake platform, just a year after the Broadwell. The Skylake is expected to bring PCI-Express 4.0, SATA Express, DDR4 support, AVX 3.2 instructions and much more. Of course, Intel is also preparing the Haswell-E HEDT platform that will be aimed at high-performance market while Skylake should be targeting the mid-range one.

The leaked roadmap also showed some details regarding the update of ultra low power CPU lineup that will, in addition to expected U- and Y-series CPUs also get a H-Series high-performance mobile chips that should be also based on a 14nm Broadwell architecture and scheduled to appear in 2H 2014.
