Western Digital announces My Passport Ultra

The new line of portable HDDs

Western Digital has announced the availability of its new My Passport Ultra line of portable hard drives that will feature USB 3.0 connectivity as well as slim and compact design combined with four color choices making it perfrect for both business and casual consumers.
To be currently available in 500GB and 1TB, with 2TB capacity models inbound, the new My Passport Ultra will feature built-in WD SmartWare Pro backup software with Dropbox integration, hardware encryption and password protection. Since it is a 2.5-inch portable HDD it is USB-powered so no separate power supply is needed, has Windows 8 support with WD Windows 8 app and features USB 3.0 connectivity with USB 2.0 backward compatibility.

The entire lineup of My Passport Ultra portable hard drives will be backed by a 3-year limited warranty and will be available from WD's store and wide range of retailers/e-tailers and distributors. The 500GB SKU will have a MSRP of US $99.99 while the 1TB SKU should retail/e-tail at around US $129.99.
