At its press event in New York, Acer has launched a new Aspire R7 notebook with quite an interesting hinge design that allows the screen to be positioned in four different modes. To be available as of 17th of May, the new Acer Aspire R7 will ship with Star Trek: The Video Game for PC as a part of marketing campaign between Acer and Paramount.
Specification wise, the new Acer Aspire R7 feature a 15.6-inch 1920x1080 resolution IPS touch screen and in addition to standard 3rd Generation Ivy Bridge CPUs (i5-3337U and the i7-3537U) seen in most Ultrabooks, will have an optional Geforce GT 750M GPU as a separate SKU. IT will also feature various SSD/HDD options and usual WiFi and Bluetooth for connectivity, two USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 ports, four stereo speakers, dual-array microphone, HDMI output and SD card reader as well as 53Whr battery rated for up to 4.5 hours of life.
The unique aspect of the new Aspire R7 is its Ezel Hinge, that allows the screen to be positioned in four different modes, the Ezel Mode, Notebook Mode, Display Mode and Pad Mode. The Ezel Mode pulls the display closer in order eliminate the need to reach across the palm rest and keyboard in order to use the touch screen. The notebook mode pulls it back and place it in a standard notebook configuration while display mode flips it over and position it perfectly for watching a movie, showing photos or giving a presentation. The last is the Pad Mode that pulls down the touch screen and lay it on top of the keyboard, turning the Aspire R7 into a standard pad with 4-degree tilting angle.
The price is set at US $999 for the "Best Buy model" that will include the copy of the Star Trek game, Core i5 CPU, 6GB of RAM, 500GB HDD/24GB SSD, and this SKU will be sold under R7-571-6858 model name. It is also noted that more SKUs are inbound and that we will most likely see Intel's 4th generation Haswell CPUs in it pretty soon.
