Intel Xeon W-3175X now available

A lot of cores for a lot of money

During their "Fall Desktop Launch Event", Intel unveiled the unlocked 28 core Xeon W-3175X processor. This CPU supports six-channel DDR4 memory and clock speeds of up to 4.30GHz out of the box. Meanwhile this processor has been listed online with a price tag of $2'999.

As mentioned before, the Xeon W-3175X sports 28 cores and 56 threads with a TDP of 255 Watts. The base frequency is set to 3.1GHz and the boost hits 4.3GHz out of the box. Unlike other Xeon processors, the upcoming Xeon W-3175X comes with support for overclocking. In order to house this CPU, you need a motherboard that is both server-grade and overclocking-ready.

Intel has partnered with ASUS and Gigabyte in order to offer mainboards that are capable of running this new processor at higher clock speeds. In order to cool down this beast, you will need a quite hefty CPU cooler. Asetek, with 690LX-PN has created a 360mm radiator made out copper that can cool down up to 500W. The Asetek 690LX-PN is available on the official website with a price of $399 and 2-year warranty.
