Microsoft will end Windows 7 support quite soon

Next January

According to latest marketshare stats, Windows 7 is still alive and used by 37% of desktop users. Since Windows 10 is out since few years, Microsoft is going to end "extended support" program in less than one year.

The mainstream support for Windows 7 ended back in 2015, when Microsoft released Windows 10. The extended support for security updates was offered for an extra five years but that will be coming to an end on the 14th of January 2020. After that date you will not get any security patch anymore.

Microsoft might make an exception for a few special cases but only for business users. For example a few years ago, the US Navy forked out $9.1 billion to continue receiving updates for Windows XP after support ended. Since this kind of changes are only for business users, if you are still running Windows 7 on your gaming PC we suggest to update to Windows 10.
