Samsung LPDDR4X memory chip is slimmer and consumes less

Mass production of second gen 10nm LPDDR4X memory

The company has announced today that it's mass production of second gen 10nm LPDDR4X memory chips have started. Since the market is moving on to LPDDR4X memory now, Samsung doesn't want stay behind other competitors.


Compared to the first generation of chips, the main improvement of the second generation appears to be a 10% reduction in power consumption at the same transfer rate. Furthermore the new chips can offer more than 4266 MT/s of performance. Samsung's second generation LPDDR4X memory is also thinner than the previous generation.

According to Samsung, the new chips are about 20% slimmer. While this value won't matter much to the end user, it might save a lot of space when manufacturers start creating a new device like a smartphone. In case you're wondering, a LPDDR4X chip is a LPDDR4 chip with input voltage cut from 1.1V to 0.6V. The standard has been registered by JEDEC and other companies like SK Hynix are selling the chips with this name.
