13-inch MacBook Pro 2018 benchmarked

It comes with a quick SSD

On Thursday last week Apple announced their updated and upgraded 2018 MacBook Pro line. Meanwhile the guys over at Laptop Mag had a closer look at it comparing it to a few other 13-inch models. The $2499 US MacBook Pro 2018 ships with an 8th gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 and a 512GB SSD.

First of all, the 18’055 Geekbench 4 multi-core score, the 13-inch MacBook Pro managed to produce, outpaced the second fastest model in their comparison - the Dell XPS 15 - by quite a margin, with the Dell scoring 14’180 points. Nevertheless, this is not the end especially when looking at throughput performance in the storage department. Laptop Mag’s 4.9GB file copy test finished in a little under 2 seconds leaving them with 2’519 MB/s transfer rates. In relation to any other standard equipped notebook at roughly the same price point this is simply another league since the Apple notebook is making use of a M.2 SSD, while the others are relying on a SATA drive. In the case of video editing the 2018 MacBook Pro 13 was about 6 percent slower than the Dell XPs 13.

Overall it appears that the 2018 MacBook Pro with 13 inch screen is a very solid performer. But as always with Apple products; they tend to come at quite a price. $2’499 US is anything but a bargain for a product with these specs.
