AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990X spotted on 3DMark database

Available in Q3 2018

A few days ago AMD announced its Ryzen Threadripper 2990X which should be available quite soon. Once again, the youtube TUM APISAK has spotted this CPU listed on 3DMark database. Furthermore the chip has been listed on a german retailer for a little over 1500 Euro.


The Threadripper 2990X comes with 32 cores and 64 threads, and a TDP of 250W. The 3DMark database shows us a few more details about the upcoming chip. The engineering sample spotted on the database features a base clock of 3.00GHz base clock and a boost speed of 3.80GHz. At the moment isn't clear if we are looking at the final frenquencies or we should expect at least 4.0GHz on the boost clock.

The screenshot also reveals that this database submission was made by someone testing the processor with prototype motherboard codenamed "Whitehaven OPS rev B CF4". According to latest rumors, AMD should release this CPU in Q3 2018. Beside that, the Threadripper 2990X has been spotted on a german retailer for a bit over 1500 Euro. This price is exact the double of the Threadripper 1950X which features half cores and threads. Although the price might look a bit steep, Intel is selling the 18 core 36 thread Core i9-7980XE for almost 2000 Euro.
