Intel might release a eight-core mainstream processor

Finally spotted in 3DMark database

In order to reply to AMD's new Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs, Intel is planning to increase the core count on their next-generation desktop platform. According to the latest rumors, Intel might add a eight core CPU regarding their 8th generation of mainstream desktop CPUs.

Videocardz has spotted an entry in the Futuremark database that looks like the upcoming 8-core processor Coffee Lake. The processor is listed as a generic, in other words the microcode has not been updated for recognize the CPU. Furthermore the base clock looks rather low and we believe that is misread from the system info of 3DMark.

Due to a previous leak, we already know that Intel is going to release Z390 chipset during the second half of 2018. According to a post of Eurocom, Intel Z390 chipset is designed to support CPUs with up to 8-cores. During the next weeks, Intel will release H370, B360 and H310 chipsets and we expect to see the Z390 soon as well.
