Taipower unveils Mirage NP900 NVMe SSD

First NVMe SSD with SM2262 controller

Taipower just announced the new Mirage NP900 NVMe SSD, which is the first product to use the new SM226x controllers from Silicon Motion. According to latest rumors, Silicon Motion will released four controller that we should see during CES in a few days.

Silicon Motion announced their ultra-high speed SM226x PCIe NVMe SSD controllers back in August. The family consists of four controllers: SM2262EN, SM2262, SM2263 and SM2263XT. The new controllers will be used by several Silicon Motion partners like ADATA, Intel, Crucial, SanDisk and Western Digital.

The Mirage NP900 uses the SM2262 controller which is just one tier down from Silicon Motion's flagship SM2262EN. Talking about performance, sequentially reading these drives should hit up to 2'685MB/s and up to 1'695MB/s sequentially writing. According to the manufacturer, the 4K random access performance is up to 370'000 / 300'000 IOPS.

Since the CES 2018 is right behind the corner, we will surely keep an eye on it.
