AMD's RX Vega scores big in VR DX12 benchmark

Faster than NVIDIA GTX 1080

Yesterday Futuremark has unveiled the Cyan Room benchmark, its latest virtual reality focussed benchmark for the VRMark software. During the last weeks, AMD has been pushing for higher VR performance on its GPUs and it seems that Vega can be a very quick card in this new benchmark.

According to the "Red Team", the RX Vega 64 and RX Vega 56 perform pretty well in Cyan Room, beating out the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 Ti. Furthermore also the RX 580 is very close to the GTX 1060 from NVIDIA. According to the graph, the RX Vega 64 hits 170 frames per second in this benchmark and the RX Vega 56 scored 162 frames per second. Meanwhile, the GTX 1080 is stable at 140 frames per second and the GTX 1070 Ti at 130 frames per second.

The flagship NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti is missing from the list and it's safe to assume that NVIDIA's high-end card would dominate the chart. Since Vega 64 targets the GTX 1080, this isn't a bad result for AMD. VRMark Cyan Room update is available as a free update for VRMark Advanced Edition and VRMark Professional Edition. If you have the Basic Edition you will not get any update. However this release comes at the same time as Steam's Autumn sale, which is currently offering a price reduction for VRMark, 3DMark and PCMark 10.

At the moment you can find several bundles on Steam and save up 77% off the retail price.
