Since their launch, Coffee Lake desktop CPUs have been somewhat limited in availability. In order to fix the supply issues, Intel notified its customers that they will soon begin receiving parts assembled in China. To keep up with this strong demand, the company is adding a new assembly-and-test site in Chengdu, China.
According to Intel, this new facility should ensure a continuous supply of the entire Coffee Lake Core i5 and Core i7 lineup for desktops, so we can hope that the added capacity will lead to more reliable stock and lower prices. The new chips should be arrive on the market around next December 15. The news has been posted in the Intel Quality Document Management System and the document shows how to spot processors assembled and tested in Chengdu versus those assembled in Malaysia.
The change is effective for i5-8400, i5-8600K, i7-8700, and i7-8700K CPUs. At the moment some CPUs are still missing, for example the Intel Core i7-8700 and i7-8700K are still unavailable on several Amazon marketplaces including Italy.
