Intel announces laptop gaming chips with AMD Radeon graphics

With Core H-series processors

In December 2016, we have heard rumors about AMD licensing their Radeon integrated graphics chips to Intel for further use in their processors. During the past months, both Intel and AMD haven't released any further information and now, it looks like the rumours were true all along. Intel has announced its new Core H-series processors, featuring Intel's CPU cores as well as a semi-custom GPU from AMD.

According to Intel, the upcoming Core H-series processors will help creating thinner and lighter enthusiast laptops. These new processors will be part of Intel's 8th Gen Core family, pairing the CPU with a Radeon GPU in one package. This will save up a lot of space on the motherboard and we might see that space used for bigger batteries or better cooling solutions. According to AMD's VP Scott Herkelman, this upcoming chips should offer good performance to gamers and content creators.

The upcoming chip feature Intel's CPU cores paired with a semi-custom GPU from AMD. In order to make both chip linked, Intel has created an Embedded Multi-Die Interconnect Bridge which is the heart of the chip. This small bridge allows informations to be passed. The upcoming Core H-series should be extremely efficient and powerful at same time.

Overall this is good news for enthusiast users and looks to be excellent news for AMD. So far Intel has not revealed details on pricing and availability on their 8th Gen Core family but we are sure we will know more during upcoming CES 2018.
