ASUS launches two mini-ITX AM4 motherboards

X370 and B350 chipset

ASUS has been the first manufacturer to come up with AMD AM4 300-series motherboards. Already a few weeks ago, we have seen first details on upcoming mini-ITX models, which are based on AMDs AM4 chipset. Meanwhile, there are finally more details on the ROG Strix X370-I and B350-I motherboards.

The ASUS ROG Strix X370-I and the ROG Strix B350-I offer the same features and connectors, the only difference between these two model is the chipset. Both boards feature a mini-ITX form factor with two DDR4 DIMM slots. On the storage side we find one M.2 slot, four SATA ports, four USB 3.1 ports and two USB 3.1 Gen2 ports. Looking at expansion slots we find one PCIe Gen 3.0 x16 slot with metal reinforcement.

The most interesting feature of these boards is that their audio solution actually comes on a daughterboard suspended above the PCB. That daughterboard also sports a M.2 socket. The whole thing is covered by an aluminum plate with RGB LED-illuminated ROG logo. The audio codec is the Realtek S1220A on both boards.

These two motherboards will support AMD's entire Ryzen lineup, including the 8-core Ryzen 7 1800X. According to ASUS, both motherboards even support overclocking although at this time it is unknown if this compact boards will limit the overclocking potential of Ryzen 7 CPUs. We are quite curious to see how a Ryzen high-end CPU will perform on this new motherboard since this is the first ASUS X370 mini-ITX model.
