During the PAX West event AMD has showcased its Ryzen Threadripper and Vega goodies. During the past few months, the company has had great success with its Ryzen platform. During the event, AMD has discussed about Zen 2 and Zen 3 based processors. These future AMD chips should focus on better overclocking and higher IPC.
According to CPU marketing guru and former Tom's Hardware editor Don Woligroski, AMD is planning tweaks to get even more performance out of Zen. One of the down sides of Ryzen this year was gaming. Although Ryzen 7 is a highly capable chip, when it comes to 1080p gaming, it can't match the latest 7th generation Core i7 processors from Intel. AMD is planning to work side by side with developers and fix all these performance issues in the current games.
In the case of future games, AMD is planning to help developers in to take extra advantage of the Ryzen architecture. Prey for example is particularly well optimised towards Ryzen, since Bethesda and AMD appear to have collaborated in-depth to make the game work sa good as possible.
AMD will release another set of Zen processors based on the 14nm+ node before moving on Zen 2 and Zen 3, which will be based on 7nm process technology. This jump will be one of the toughest ever made, which is also a reason why we won’t see Zen 2 not before 2020.
