If you follow our site on a daily basis you have probably noticed our forum section called "Modding" where you can find build logs, projects as well as sponsored mods. Today, we will be checking out yet another project made by our editor Luca. Project Cube is based on the incredibly good looking and equally huge Lian Li PC-343B-XT case.
This worklog shows a media server that still packs some muscle. With this project Luca has updated his previous build, moving his media server hardware into a more capable and better looking case. The front part has been reworked by adding 3x Noctua NF-S12A FLX fans with a custom aluminum bracket. The bracket is installed on the inside of the case and it’s well hidden behind Lian Li slot covers. This way the front panel look hasn’t been ruined. All the fans installed inside the Lian Li PC-343B-XT case come from Noctua and they have been plugged into a NZXT Grid+ V2 fan controller. Since this system is supposed to run 24/7, each fan slot has been equipped with dust filters.
The entire system is built around a Tyan S7012 GM4NR motherboard with two Intel Xeon E5649 processors, which are being cooled by two Noctua NH-U12DX-i4 coolers. Although the Intel Xeon E5649 processors don't belong to the latest generation, they still pack punch. Furthermore the system features 8x4GB of DDR3 ECC memory. Storage wise, the system includes fifteen HDDs which have been installed inside three 5.25" bay chassis. Apart from that there is one SSD for the OS.
Last but not least, there is a Seasonic powersupply paired with sleeved Cablemod cables. Following you can find the specifications as well as some pictures and the worklog hosted on our forum.
