Dell enters VR arena

With Visor HMD

Dell announced its own version of a virtual reality head mounted display (VR HMD) during IFA. The Dell Visor features two 1440 x 1440 LCD panels (for a total resolution of 2880 x 1440) that can be flipped up to let you see the real world around you without having to remove the headset. According to Dell, the VR is comfortable to wear even with glasses.

The Dell Visor HMD is similar to Acer’s Mixed Reality HMD, and it's connected to a Windows PC with a single USB Type-C cable. Therefore there is only one cable to manage, creating less of a mess around your PC. It features inside-out 6DoF tracking and doesn't require external cameras to track its position in space. The VR comes with a white finish and with a cushioned faceplate and headband. The Dell Visor doesn't ship with a controller of any kind, but it should be compatible with Microsoft's new Mixed Reality Controllers that are tracked by the headset's external sensors.

However, the Dell Visor HMD only with apps from the Microsoft store and it doesn't support Steam or Oculus programs. Dell is offering the headset for $359.99 US and the controllers for another $99.99 US.

According to the company, the Visor should be available starting from mid October. We expect to see this VR bundled with Alienware gaming PCs like desktops and notebook.
