ASUS B250 Mining with 19 PCI-Express slots

Cryptocurrency mining is having a weird effect

Over the past 15 years that I’ve been running ocaholic I’ve come across quite a few weird products but a board with 20 - I repeat twenty - expansion slots that is definitely very high up on that list, if not at the very top. Well what to say but that’s exactly what ASUS has come up with.

The ASUS B250 Mining Expert comes with no less than 19 PCI-Express x1 slots and one single PCI-Express x16 slot, which makes for a total of 20 expansions slot sitting between the bottom edge and the CPU socket. Apart from that, this board is based on Intel’s B250 chipset, which basically marks the entry level when it comes chipzilla’s 200 series offerings.

The rather odd feature list doesn’t just stop with the number PCI-Express slots. On the right hand side of the board there are no less than three ATX power connectors to the left of all those graphics card slot there are three MOLEX connectors for additional delivery of juice to the graphics department. Other than that there is a rather unsuspicious CPU power design featuring six phases, while the memory gets backed by one phase.

Alongside the latest cryptocurrency hype more and more awkward things appear to be happening. Apart from the obvious things like prices going through the roof most of the major motherboard vendors now have boards with an insane number of PCI-Express slots. Apparently ASUS is not leading the pack, simply judging it by the number of PCI-Express slots. For now we can definitely be curious when the next odd product for cryptocurrency Mining is going to make it to the market.
