Alphacool unveils HDX-5 M.2 cooler

For RAID card

If these days you want to buy a fast SSD you’re most likely going to choose a drive with M.2 form factor. Those drives are really fast but unfortunately some of them also struggle with overheating issues. A few months ago, Alphacool introduced its M.2 heatsinks which are supposed to help keeping the temperatures of your M.2 SSD low. Meanwhile they’ve added yet another cooler to their lineup, which goes by the name Eisblock HDX-5.

This block features a PCIe x4 card, which allows you to mount two SSDs, plug in two SATA drives and install a cooler. Since the M.2 slots are usually placed between the PCI Express slots below high-end graphics cards, decent airflow is basically inexistent. Using a PCIe x4 card, the M.2 SSDs will receive more fresh air and throttling shouldn’t be an issue anymore.

The HDX-5 is a passive block which covers the entire surface of the PCIe x4 card. The block is made from aluminum with thick fins. The PCI-Express 3.0 x4 card can provide up to 3'900 MB/s bandwidth and you can setup a RAID0 or RAID1 configurations.

The Eisblock HDX-5 and the add-on card are available via aquatuning and they cost 102.31 Euro.
