The number of rumors regarding Coffee Lake that are making it through these days is quite impressive. It’s not been long ago that we’ve last written about alleged clock speeds of Intel’s upcoming 6-core mainstream processors but already today there is new information on the entire upcoming lineup.
According to the latest rumors the Intel Core i7-8700K is supposed to reach up to 4.7 GHz clock speed, when only a single core is under load. Compared to the current Core i7-7700K this is a 200 MHz increase. Apart from that the maximum Turbo clock when all cores are under full load is supposed to be 4.3 GHz. The Core i7-8700 has a 600 MHz lower base clock - 3.2 GHz versus 3.8 GHz - and the max Turbo frequency when all cores are under load is close to that.
According to what’s known so far Coffee Lake is going to fit in the current Socket LGA1151 but the chips won’t work on 100- or 200- series chipsets. Alongside the processors, Intel is going to release new two new chipsets which go by the names Z370 and B360. Since the B350 name has already been taken by AMD, Intel will move from B250 to B360. So far the lineup will include six models but we know already that Intel is also going to add an unlocked Core i3.
With these specifications Coffee Lake is going to be a very serious competitor to AMD’s Ryzen 7 line-up and we’re curious to find out how these new chips are going to perform.
