A few days ago, AMD has officially announced their Ryzen Threadripper processors. This new series of CPUs will come with more cores than their Ryzen 7 parts and it's based on the new AMD X399 HEDT platform. The lineup includes three SKUs with up to 16-cores and 32-threads.
The Dutch website Tweakers.net spotted this chip on the ASUS and ASRock website browsing the compatibility lists. Compared to the Threadripper 1920X, the TDP is 40W lower. Unfortunately there are no details yet on the clock speed of this non-X Ryzen Threadripper chip but for reference reasons here again the details on the Ryzen Threadripper 1920X. This chip features 12-core and 24-thread as well as a base clock frequency of 3.5GHz.
It looks like AMD is already starting to fill in gaps in the case of the Ryzen Threadripper lineup. A 12 core and 24 thread chip without overclocking capabilities could be a very reasonable choice for future AMD-based workstations. Especially the lower TDP appears very attractive. We’re curious if AMD has even more aces up it’s sleeve, since the Ryzen Threadripper chips are basically EPYC server parts.
