ASUS adds ROG Crosshair VI Extreme

Tailored for high-end gaming PCs

The ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Extreme is another socket AM4 motherboard that should help filling in gaps in the ASUS AM4 lineup. So far there are only four X370 motherboards from ASUS, which are the Prime X370-Pro, the ROG X370-F Strix Gaming, the ROG Crosshair VI Hero and the ROG Crosshair VI Hero AC. Compared to the ROG Crosshair VI Hero, the ROG Crosshair VI Extreme packs more features.

The Crosshair VI Extreme is an E-ATX form-factor motherboard and there are your usual four DIMM slots, which you get in the case of a dual-channel memory interface. Apart from that there is the "Aura" feature allowing you to change the illumination of the board from within Windows. There are also three full-sized PCIe slots and three PCI x1 slots. Between the first and the second full-sized PCIe slot there are two slots distance leaving plenty of room for graphics cards to breathe even in multi-GPU configurations.

Since the motherboard is not yet listed on ASUS’s official website, we can only guess the specifications by looking at the available image. On the storage side we see one M.2 slot which should be compatible with M.2 SSDs with 22110 form factor meaning that the drives can measure up to 110 millimeters in length. Furthermore there are eight SATA 6Gbps ports and a USB 3.1 front panel connector. Looking for additional features we find onboard buttons and a debug display, support for USB 3.1, a high-quality power design and a good mix of connectors at the I/O panel.

Since this model is specifically targeting watercooling enthusiasts, there is an armada of 3-pin and 4-pin PWM connectors. There are for example five 4-pin PWM headers in the top right corner and five 4-pin PWM ports in the bottom area of the PCB. Furthermore there is also a white 3-pin port in the bottom left corner. Basically this motherboard allows you to power up to 11 fans or several water cooling pumps. According to Guru3D, Bitspower is supposed to release a suitable full cover waterblock rather soon.

The ROG Crosshair VI Extreme should be available quite soon for a suggested price of $349 USD.
