Intel Core i5-8250U spotted on Geekbench

Kaby Lake-R CPUs for ultrabooks?

Although the acclaimed launch date will be somewhen during the upcoming weeks news leaks related to Kaby Lake-R are starting to make it through. This time Laptopmedia found yet another leak in the Geekbench database. Like the current U-series, the upcoming Core i5-8250U should be a 15W dual core part with Hyperthreading.

According to the Geekbench database, the upcoming Intel Core i5-8250U hits 13'060 points in the multi-core and 3'996 points in the single-core routine, while the Core i5-7200U with stock memory speed is able to achieve 7'757 points in multi-core and 3'962 points in single-core. In other words the Core i5-8250U is 68% faster in multi-core and about 1% quicker in single-core. According to the information in the Geekbench database, the Core i5-8250U packs a base clock of 1.8 GHz but unfortunately there are no details on the boost clock yet. Apart from that there is 6MB of L3 cache.

According to the Geekbench database the i5-8250U is supposed to be quad core part with eight threads, which would not make any sense. The Dell XPS series usually features ultrabooks, which have always been using ultra low voltage chips. Therefore we believe the Geekbench result is wrong.
