Intel Core X pre-orders start June 19

Flagship models expected for October

During the pre-show days at the PC Gaming Show E3, Intel has revealed the launch date for its Core X series of CPUs. The first Kaby Lake-X and Skylake-X chips will go on pre-order by June 19 and the first units are going to be shipped the following week. At launch everything from the four core Core i5-7640K chip all the way up to the ten core Core i9-7900X processor is going to be available.


According to Intel, customers who want CPUs with more cores will still have to be patient for a while. The 12 core i9-7920X processor is expected to be shipped in August, while the i9-7940X, i9-7960X, and i9-7980XE aren’t going to be available until October. According the latest rumors, the Skylake-X family, which will feature 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 core SKUs. All of them will have up to 44/28 PCIe 3.0 lanes, no integrated graphics and support for DDR4-2666 and DDR4-2400 memory. Skylake-X will comes with Turbo Boost 3.0 on board and a TDP of up to 150W.

The Kaby Lake-X lineup, on the other hand, will only feature 4-core SKUs with 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes, up to 8MB of L3 cache and 112W TDP. Intel Turbo Boost 3.0 will be on board as well and there will also be support for DDR4-2666 and DDR4-2400 memory. At this time this report cannot be verified, though it matches some previous rumours.
