Although Kaby Lake-X has not yet been launched, another gem of a CPU has been found and overclocked by the Gigabyte OC Lab. During Computex 2017 the overclockers HiCookie, Sofos, Dinos22, Youngpro and SniperOZ were able to push a Core i7-7740K CPU to no less than 7.5GHz.
The Gigabyte X299-SOC Champion motherboard, like the previous version, has been designed for overclockers specifically. There are several features helping to keep the CPUs stable when using sub-zero cooling such as liquid nitrogen or liquid helium. On the basis of this board the team has scored new world records in 3DMark03, 3DMark06, CPU-Z and Aquamark. The system configuration was a little different in 3D benchmarks since they used also a an Aorus GTX 1080Ti graphics card.
Since the Kaby Lake-X launch is incoming rather soon we are sure that we will see more overclockers push for max CPU-Z on their Core i7-7740K. At this point in time we’re curious to finally see what the upcoming Intel Core i7 and i9 processors will be capable of.
