In an interview with Tom’s Hardware Don Woligroski, CPU Desktop Manager at AMD, has shed some light on the performance of the upcoming Radeon RX Vega graphics cards. He mentioned that compared to the GTX 1080 Ti and the Titan Xp the performance does look really nice.
Apparently such a line in an interview is something very vague and it leave a lot of room or interpretation. Nevertheless it sounds like AMD is setting RX Vega up to compete with NVIDIA’s flagship models.
Personally I think Don is very optimistic. There have been several rumors in the past that the Radeon RX Vega will be about as quick as the GTX 1080. It would therefore be quite a surprise if AMD found some tweaks to squeeze out this much more performance and make it compete with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or even the Titan Xp.
Nevertheless the rebel part in me is apparently hoping that the Radeon RX Vega cards are going to be able to fight for the performance crown with NVIDIA. But still I recommend to take the words from Don Woligroski have to be take with a grain of salt.
