AMD RX 570 and RX 580 spotted online

First pictures

Over the past few weeks, we have been hearing more and more about AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX 500 series graphics cards. These new graphics cards should be a refresh of the Polaris lineup with higher clock frequencies and improved energy efficiency. In the meantime the leaks continue with images of the RX 570 and RX 580.

According to a leak from Videocardz, both cards are pretty similar to the previous generation based on the Polaris GPU. This latest picture confirms that the AMD RX 580 comes with a single 8-pin power connector and it looks like AMD has learnt from the mistakes when they’ve launched the RX480. Back then AMD equipped the RX 480 with only a 6-pin power connector, although the power draw exceeded the specifications of what can be supplied through a 6-pin connector, which made the cards pull more power than from the PCI-Express also exceeding that limitation.

The RX 570 features the exact same PCB that you can find on the Radeon RX 480/470 series of graphics cards. Unlike the RX 580, the RX 570 only comes with a 6-pin power connector, but in this case more really isn’t necessary. According to latest rumors, the RX 500 series will be based on the Polaris 20 XTX and the Polaris 12 architecture. Chips based on this architecture are a newer revision of Polaris with improved performance per watt.

AMD is planning to release it's RX 500 series next April 18th. Since this is mostly a refresh, this is nothing new but they’ve also mentioned that the launch will be split in two parts. In a first wave the higher-end cards are going to be introduced and at a second stage the mid-range cards will make it to market. Overall it’s a bit a pity that all cards, except the Radeon RX 550, are going to be rebrands from the Radeon RX 400 series.
