According to a rumor from Benchlife.info, Intel is going to launch their Core i7-7000 Skylake-X series processors during Gamescom in August. This new series of CPUs will be a bit different compared to what we have seen so far from Intel. With X299, the manufacturer is going to launch a platform that will be host to processors with four to ten cores.
So far it looks like the lineup is going to include four SKUs. As with the current lineup the upcoming one will features a 10 core, an 8 core, a 6 core but on top of that there will also be a 4 core model. The first three CPUs will be based on the Skylake architecture while the last one, the quad core, will use Kaby Lake. Due to different core counts there will also be different TDPs. According to the first rumors all the Skylake-X based models will feature a TDP of 140W, while the Kaby Lake-X chips are supposed to have a TDP of 112W.
Since the upcoming HEDT chips come with 2066 pins, a new socket LGA2066 is required. This also means that Intel is going to launch a new chipset, alongside the new socket. Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X will also come with a memory interface, that clocks a little bit higher than the predecessor. By then the default clock speed will reach DDR4-2666. Recent rumours have suggested that Intel's Kaby Lake-X will offer similar features to Kaby Lake-S (for example the Intel Core i7-7700K) but with the integrated graphics processor disabled.
According to SiSoft Sandra’s database, ASRock is already working and testing the Intel Core i7-7740K with a X299 Professional Fatal1ty Gaming i7 motherboard. Since both scores have been removed from the database we don't have any further detail about the clock speeds or the TDP for that matter.
As of today it’s looks like the rumor mill regarding X299 is starting to spin up and we’re pretty confident more and more leaks will appear the closer we come to the launch.
