AMD Radeon RX 500 launch in April

April 18th to be precise

According to information from the chinese site mydrivers, AMD is planning to release it's RX 500 series in April. This is nothing new, but they’ve also mentioned that the launch will be split in two parts. In a first wave the higher-end cards are going to be introduced and at a second stage the mid-range cards will make it to market. Overall it’s a bit a pity that all cards, except the Radeon RX 550, are going to be rebrands from the Radeon RX 400 series.

Unfortunately this launch has nothing to do with the upcoming AMD Vega high-end parts. These cards are slated to launch in May this year. Apart from that it’s quite disappointing to see AMD come up with another rebrand of old cards. It appears that the only differences between the Radeon RX 580 and the Radeon RX 570 compared to their predecessors RX 480 and RX 470 are going to be the clock speeds and improved energy efficiency. Back in the days, with the Radeon R9 300 series, AMD did the exact same trick.

At this time it is unknown when AMD plans on releasing their upcoming Vega series graphics cards and it’s highly unlikely that any RX 500 series card is going to feature Vega silicon. Maybe we will see the new Vega with another name. According to latest rumors, AMD is planning to release their upcoming Ryzen 5 series CPUs at the same time as the RX 500 series. This might be a great time to build a complete AMD system with a tight budget.
