NVIDIA SLI only available on AMD X370 chipset

AMD B350 compatible with Crossfire

With Ryzen AMD has introduced six new chipsets and two of them are already available for pre-order and they are about to become available next week. As we already mentioned a few times the X370 chipset marks the high-end segment, while the B350 is the mid-range offer and with the A320 AMD is taking care of the entry-level market. On top of that there are also three additional chipset, which have been developed for small form factor (SFF) solutions and they go by the names X300, B300 and A300.

Our friends over at ComputerBase compiled a little overview on the differences between these six new chipsets. First of all only the X370 is going to support NVIDIA SLI and the B350 is compatible with Crossfire only. Although this is information is not yet confirmed, it would make perfect sense since the AMD B350 series chipsets are more budget-oriented. Adding an SLI license to an AMD B350 series motherboard would raise the price significantly.

On another note Computerbase is showing the differences regarding the PCI lanes. The Ryzen processors have a total of 24 lanes. 20 of them are PCIe 3.0 lanes, which are directly available for example for graphics cards. Through four more PCIe 3.0 lanes the chipset interfaces with the chipset, which in turn hands out PCIe 2.0 lanes. In theory a maximum of 8 lanes could be supplied from the chipset. In the case of the X370 chipset all those 8 lanes are available, while the AMD X370 and the A320 feature 6 and 4 lanes, respectively.

It also becomes clear that the different chipset come with a different number USB connectors. In the case of the AMD X370 you get 6 USB3.0 and 6 USB2.0 ports, which the AMD B350 features 2 USB3.0 and 6 USB2.0 ports.
