Seasonic refreshes its power supply line-up

New names and new units

During CES 2017 Seasonic has announced that their extensive lineup of power supplies is about to undergo a lot of changes. In fact that does make perfect sense, since the Titanium Prime series units, which have been introduced a few months ago, now embody the new high-end series, dethroning the what was formerly know as Platinum Series.

The Titanium Prime series includes four units with 850W, 750W, 650W and 600W capacities. The 600W model is based on a fanless design and therefore entirely noiseless. A little later this year Seasonic will also introduce a 1000W Titanium Prime model, which by then is supposed to be their flagship model. At 850W one could argue that there might not be enough headroom in the case of high-end SLI systems.

The Platinum Prime and Gold Prime lines consist of three models with 1.2kW, 1kW and 850W power output. The main difference between the two series is the topology, components used and as a result the efficiency. As the name suggest, the Platinum Prime series is rated 80Plus Platinum while the Gold Prime is compliant with 80Plus Gold standards. In addition, the new Platinum Prime series features a full-bridge topology paired with a LLC resonant converter.

All the Platinum units come with a 135mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing fan with RGB lighting. According to Seasonic, the fan speed and the RGB LED lights can be adjusted via software and there are five different modes available. Each mode offers a different fan speed and LED lighting acts as an mode indicator.

Furthermore Seasonic introduced the Focus Gold series which are available at a more competitive price point. This product line includes three sub-series and the main differences are related to the cable management. There are fully-modular, semi-modular and non-modular units in the portfolio. All the Focus power supplies feature a half-bridge topology. Last but not least Seasonic is introducing their ECO Plus series (400W, 500W and 600W), with 80Plus Bronze certificate and double-forward topology on the primary side.
