EVGA GTX 1080 spotted catching fire on video

VRM goes up in smoke

After the initial reports of some EVGA GTX 1080 FTW and GTX 1070 FTW having issues with VRM temperatures, a video of an EVGA catching fire has leaked online.

EVGA has issued an official statement saying that the BIOS update will soon be available which should fix the issue and is also offering free thermal pads for VRM for those that want it.

The issue, which was was first noticed by Toms Hardware site, is present due to the fact that there are no thermal pads between the VRM and the main heatsink or the backplate, which means that it runs hotter than usual and could burn out.

One of those EVGA GTX 1080 FTW graphics cards have been recorded on a video just as its VRM has burned out.

This could be a big issue for EVGA as it affects a lot of graphics cards but at least the upcoming BIOS update could fix some things before more graphics cards go up in flames.
