Nintendo unveils the new Switch console

The Nintendo NX gets a name

Nintendo has now officially unveiled its next-gen console, the Nintendo Switch, a hybrid home/portable console with detachable controllers and cartridge-based games.

While Nintendo is still keeping all the juicy hardware details hidden, we do know that it will be powered by Nvidia Tegra SoC. There are still no details, which SoC is currently being used but we suspect the GPU part will be based on Nvidia's latest Pascal GPU architecture in order to provide as much graphics processing power as possible.

What makes the Nintendo Switch special is the fact that this is a first hybrid console, that both provides gamers with chance to play at home but also turn it into a portable console and enjoy all those games on the road.

The reveal video shows that Nintendo Switch will be getting some nice games, including The Legend of Zeld: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon, Mario Kart and more.

The Nintendo Switch is also going back to using cartridges, and while there will probably be an option to download games digitally, cartridges are also interesting and will allow Nintendo to make some those games available in retail as well.

The new Nintendo Switch console is expected to launch sometime in March and we are sure looking forward to hear more details about it from Nintendo.
