AMD has teamed up with both CyberpowerPC and Oculus VR in order to make a cheaper VR-ready PC system and has come up with one that has a US $499 price tag and meets Oculus VR minimum requirements.
Based on AMD FX-4350 quad-core CPU, AMD Radeon RX 470 4GB graphics card, 8GB of RAM, 1TB HDD as well as keyboard and a mouse, the system should handle Oculus VR headset but we are not sure what games and at which quality but at least you would be able to play with it. Of course, you still need to buy the Oculus Rift headset but at US $499, this is probably the cheapest one around.
CyberPowerPC also has a bit beefier system in its offer, called the Gamer Xtreme VR desktop, which comes with an Intel Core i5 Skylake CPU and Radeon RX 480 8GB graphics card, which should handle both VR games as well as all other games a bit better.
This was all achievable thanks to the new technology called the asynchronous spacewarp, allowing Oculus to run VR on even lower specifications than before, dropping system requirements down to Geforce GTX 960 and Radeon RX 470.
Hopefully we will see more of these system soon and we certainly hope that the next generation of VR headsets will be both cheaper and have even lower system requirements.
