Mobile version of Polaris 11 GPU revealed

Faster than the GTX 970M

It was just a matter of time before AMD released a mobile version of the new Polaris 11 GPU, and latest reports coming from China say that a couple of HP gaming laptops, like Omen and Shadow, are already featuring these particular GPUs.

Unfortunately, the advertising is a bit of a mess, since we found information about both the R9 M480 and the RX 460: as far as we know, the R9 M480 should perform similar to the desktop version of the RX 460, which suggests that they are probably using different names for the same chip. Both versions should feature 4GB of dedicated VRAM, and according to the latest rumours, the R9 M480 should be faster than the Geforce GTX 970M.

Comparing the R9 480M to the mGTX 1070, based on leaked benchmarks, which for apparent reasons should be taken with a grain of salt, it looks like the AMD mobile chip is quite a bit slower than its NVIDIA counterpart. Neverthelss if the values are true, then the NVIDIA mobile chip is very impressive and AMD will seriously struggle to come up with something that's truly competitive.
