Apple working on 5K display with GPU

Could work on any Mac system

According to latest rumors, Apple might be working on a 5K display that would actually have a built-in GPU, in order to cope with a higher resolution.

Since you can't actually run a 5K display over a single-stream cable, Apple might be working on a rather unique solution that will bring a 5120x2880 resolution display which has an integrated GPU and use Thunderbolt 3 port.

While it does sound like a far fetched rumor, since such display would have higher price tag, some analysts suggest that the new 5K display will actually use Multi-Stream Transport to drive two DisplayPort 1.2 stream, each handling a half of the display, something Apple did on its first 5K iMac.

Earlier rumor suggest that future Mac systems will be running on AMD Polaris GPU and 5K display just might be the first of those devices, if it comes with an integrated GPU.

Unfortunately, there are still no details on the actual release date but due to recent stock shortages in Apple stores, there is a possibility that such display could be announced at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference on June 13th.
