According to the latest rumors, Nvidia's Geforce GTX 1060 should retain the 256-bit memory interface and pack 4GB or 8GB GDDR5 memory as well as offer enough performance to bring affordable VR gaming.
As rumored earlier, the upcoming Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 will be based on a GP106 GPU, which should pack significantly lower number of CUDA cores, somewhere around 1280.
The good side of the story is that the GTX 1060 will retain the 256-bit memory interface and come with 4GB or 8GB of GDDR5 memory, which should allow it to handle most of the games and even offer affordable VR gaming, something that Nvidia will most likely use in its marketing.
The GTX 1060
has been already spotted in the Zauba database by Wccftech.com, which has pretty much confirmed the 256-bit memory interface with 4GB/8GB of GDDR5 memory.
In future, Nvidia could fill the gap between the GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 with a GTX 1060 Ti, which could be either based on the same GP106 or even a more cut down version of the GP104 GPU, depending on the market situation.
Nvidia certainly needs a good mid-range graphics card to counter AMD's upcoming Polaris 10 based graphics cards and the GTX 1060 sounds like a perfect candidate.
