Although we already had a chance to see some information regarding it earlier, Samsung has now officially launched the new 750 EVO SSD, a budget oriented solid state drive (SSD) based on Samsung's 16nm TLC NAND.
After the release of its first triple-level cell (TLC) NAND-based SSD, the Samsung 840 SSD series, Samsung had a clear lineup differentiation, with MLC-based Pro-series SSDs aimed at high-end and TLC-based and EVO drives aimed at mid-range markets.
Currently, Samsung positions its 850 EVO SSD as the mid-range offer while the new Samsung 750 EVO will be aimed at the budget-market and available in 120GB and 250GB capacities, both sharing similar specifications.
As noted earlier, the new Samsung 750 EVO SSD use Samsung 16nm TLC NAND, a successor of the 19nm TLC NAND seen in the 840 EVO. The 16nm TLC NAND is paired up with Samsung's well known MGX controller and features 256MB for both 120GB and 250GB version, the only two capacities that it will be available, at least for now.
The Samsung 750 EVO also shares plenty of performance similarities with the 850 EVO, both featuring sequential read and write performance of up to 540MB/s and 520MB/s for both 120GB and 250GB versions. Both also share the same 4K random read and write performance of up to 94K IOPS and 88K IOPS. On the other hand, the 850 EVO offers slightly higher 4K random write QD1 performance of up to 40K IOPS while 750 EVO peaks at 35K IOPS.
As you would have guessed, the Samsung 750 EVO is based on a standard 2.5-inch form-factor with SATA 6Gbps interface.
The Samsung 750 EVO SSDs also have a lower endurance rating of 35TB of the 120GB and 70TB for the 250GB version, compared to the 75TB for the 850 EVO, as well as shorter warranty period of three years. Nevertheless, the Samsung 750 EVO keeps all the encryption features including AES-256, TCG Opal 2.0 and IEEE-1667 (eDrive).
While it has been already spotted in some markets, Samsung's 750 EVO should be now available worldwide and some retailers have already listed it online with a price set at US $54.99 for the 120GB model and US $74.99 for the 250GB model, making it about $10 cheaper compared to the 850 EVO lineup. In Europe, a couple of retailers/e-tailers have listed it with a price set at €59.99 for the 120GB version and €89.90 for the 250GB model.
