MSI has unveiled two new workstation-class motherboards based on Intel's C232 Express chipset and featuring support for Intel's Xeon E3-1200 v5 CPUs as well as 6th generation Skylake Core, Pentium and Celeron LGA 1151 CPUs, the MSI C236A Workstation and the MSI C236M Workstation motherboards.
The two new workstation-class motherboards have plenty of features including MSI's Military Class 4 components, Guard-Pro, multi-GPU support with reinforced Steel Armor PCI-E slots, support for ECC DDR4 memory and Nvidia Quadro and AMD FirePro professional graphics cards.
In order not to make them exclusive to professional users, MSI has equipped the two new Workstation motherboards with plenty of consumer- and gaming-grade features, like Audio Boost 5.1-channel integrated audio solution USB 3.1 Type-C port, while the rest of the specifications include Turbo M2 32Gb/s port with support for Turbo U.2, Intel i219V Gigabit Ethernet port, MSI's new Click BIOS 5, DDR4 Boost and XMP LED and more.
As far as we can see, there aren't many difference between the C236A Workstation and the C236M Workstation motherboards, apart from the obvious size as the C236A Workstation is based on a standard ATX form-factor, while C236M Workstation uses mATX form-factor.
Of course, with less room, C236M Workstation motherboard lacks the M.2 port, as it comes with six SATA 6Gbps ports, sharing single SATA Express port, and only comes with two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 ports and two PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slots. The C236A Workstation has an additional PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (working at x1) as well as an additional PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slot.
Unfortunately, MSI did not unveil any details regarding the price or the availability date for the two new Workstation motherboards so we will have to wait for these to appear in retail/e-tail.
