TAG Heuer unveils the new Connected smartwatch

Intel-powered luxury Android smartwatch

A well known Swiss watchmaker, TAG Heuer, has announced its first luxury Android smartwatch, the Intel-based TAG Heuer Connected.

Featuring a 46mm diameter case, which is 12.8mm thick, the TAG Heuer Connected weighs 52g, which is not much considering that the chassis is made of titanium while the 1.5-inch LCD display is covered with a sheet of sapphire glass.

The 1.5-inch 360x360 fully circular tansflective LTPS LCD should provide improved visibility and lower power consumption. The heart of the TAG Heuer Connected is Intel's Z34xx series SoC clocked at up to 1.6GHz. The SoC is paired up with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

The TAG Heuer Connected has all the usual sensors, including accelerometer and gyroscope but lacks heart rate monitor. It also comes with 802.11bgn WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 and runs on Android Wear OS. The battery inside the Connected is 410mAh one but we do not have any idea regarding the battery life. Luckly, it is IP67 certified, which makes it water resistant.

Since over 30 percent of the parts are made outside of Switzerland, TAG Heuer did not brand it as "Swiss made" but TAG Heuer has a neat surprise for all the buyers. Since it is modeled on TAG Heuer's Carrera mechanical watch, Connected buyers will be able to trade in the new smartwatch, add another US $1500 and get the Carrera, after two years of owning Connected.

While the price might seem steep, TAG Heuer mechanical watches are a status symbol so the US $1499 price is not really a surprise.
