Intel has announced a couple of new Xeon D processors and Ethernet controllers that will cover Storage and Edge Network markets and join the earlier introduced Xeon D SoC covering the Cloud market.

The list includes eleven new SKUs in the Xeon D-1500 series and which will complement the earlier released Xeon D SoCs that were covering the Cloud market and meant for web hosting, object caching and dedicated hosting workloads. The new SKUs, on the other hand, will cover Storage, including warm cloud storage and mid-range enterprise SAN/NAS and entry NAS workloads as well as Edge Network markets with edge routing, edge security/firewall, wireless access and wireless base station workloads.

According to Intel, the new Xeon D SoC will offer high-performance, low-power and twice the maximum memory support compared to the previous generations. The eight new SKUs wil be joined by three new SKUs that will launched in Q1 2016.

With TDP ranging from 45W to 20W with the D-15x1 SKUs targeting storage and D-15x7 and D-15x8 targeting networking and communication segments.

In addition to the new Xeon D-1500 series SKUs, Intel also announced the ne FM10000 Ethernet multi-host controller family that can provide up to 36 Ethernet lanes and support 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, 10Gbps, and 25Gbps Ethernet ports as well as an ability to group up to four lanes for 40Gbps and 100Gbps ports.

Intel also launched the new X550 single-chip, low-cost 10GbE platform with support for 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps and 10Gbps operation. Based on PCIe 3.0 x1/x4/x8 link the new 10GBASE-T controller provides both MAC and PHY in a single package and will be available in single and dual-port versions.
