According to the latest report, Intel has over 1,000 people working on a new LTE modem that could end up in the next-generation Apple iPhone.
As expected, Apple should unveil a new iPhone smartphone next year and it could end up with a fancy new LTE modem, courtesy of Intel.
According to a report from VentureBeat, Intel is working on a new 7360 LTE modem that Apple can use in its next-gen iPhone in 2016 and the company has over 1,000 people on that project.
This is certainly a big deal for Intel, as whether you love it or hate it, Apple still sells a lot of iPhones. While Intel might have got a deal from Apple, Apple might still use both Intel's as well as LTE modems from its current partner, Qualcomm.
During latest financial call, Intel's CEO, Brian Krzanich, noted that the 7360 LTE modem will begin shipping later this year while first products with that same model could appear in 2016. Apple still has not officially confirmed or signed Intel as the supplier but if all goes well, this will be a big win for Intel.
