While it launched at rather modest 256GB and 512GB capacities, Samsung has announced that the new 950 Pro M.2 SSD will be updated with in 2016 and reach capacities of up to 1TB.
As it was launched with the second-generation 32-layer V-NAND, the Samsung 950 Pro M.2 NVMe SSD will be also getting an update next year. According to Samsung, the same SSD will be switching to 256Gbit 48-layer MLC V-NAND which will double the capacity, allowing Samsung to release a 1TB version.
In case you missed it, the Samsung 950 Pro M.2 is the first consumer SSD that features both V-NAND flash memory and PCIe 3.0 x4 interface with the new NVMe protocol, all in the M.2 form-factor. Offering sequential read and write performance up to 2,500MB/s and 1500MB/s, the Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD packs quite a performance punch and while it is currently limited to 512GB of capacity, it will get bigger next year.
Samsung will also update the rest of its lineup introducing higher capacities all across the range, including 850 Pro SSD which will reach up to 4TB in capacity and the 850 EVO M.2 which will be available with up 1TB capacity, all thanks to new third-gen V-NAND chips.
