Nvidia now offers 1080p60 GRID streaming on Shield

Brings new data centers online

Nvidia has launched its latest update for the Shield Hub Android app which now offers 1080p GRID streaming at 60 FPS for Shield devices. The company has also launched two new data centers in order to bring low-latency streaming to more regions.

Previously limited to 720p60 streaming, the new update for Shield Hub app will stream more than 35 games which are currently available in GRID catalog, including Batman: Arkham Origins, Borderlands, and DiRT 3, to a new visual level.

According to the blog post written by Nvidia's Brian Burke, while it is quite easy to stream movies in 1080p resolution due to buffering, streaming games is a bit harder as everything is about the response time and latency. Apparently, in order to make it happen, Nvidia has spent years in perfecting cloud gaming and is now the first company to stream games at 1080p60.

The Shield Hub app can be updated right away by following the published instructions or you wait for the official release which is scheduled for end of this month.

In addition to the new Shield Hub app beta version for 1080p60 streaming, Nvidia has launched two new data centers, one covering the southwestern United States and the other, which should go live later this month, will cover the Central Europe. These two new data centers should offer lower latency and better streaming experience in those regions and will bring the number of live data centers to eight, which offer GRID gaming in 20 countries.

Nvidia is definitely betting a lot on game streaming and currently offers quite an impressive solution.
