ASRock unveils new USB 3.1 motherboards, cards

Both USB 3.1 Type-A and Type-C

Although most of USB 3.1-capable products are expected at Computex 2015 show in June, ASRock has decided to jump the gun and announce its upcoming range of USB 3.1-capable motherboards and PCIe add-on cards.

ASRock will include support for USB 3.1 on quite a few products and has currently unveiled that two motherboards as well as two PCI-Express add-on cards will have that support.

The lineup starts with Z97 Extreme6/3.1 and the X99 Extreme6/3.1 motherboards, where the Z97-based one will have a combination of Type-A and Type-C PCIe card while the X99-based motherboard will ship with a dual Type-A PCIe add-on card since it already has a Type-C USB 3.1 port on its I/O panel.

As you can guess from previous motherboards that will be bundled with PCIe add-on cards, ASRock will have two versions, one with Type-C and Type-A ports, and one with dual Type-A USB 3.1 ports. Both will offer a combined throughput of 10Gbps and will need a single 4-pin Molex or 4-pin floppy connector for power.

There will be plenty of USB 3.1 motherboards and PCIe add-on cards at Computex 2015 show in June and it is nice to know that motherboard manufacturers are already preparing for it.
